Apple Filling:
1 pack dried apples
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 medium-size bottle vegetable oil (for frying)

Pie Crust:
4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. shortening
cold water

Place apples, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla flavor in saucepan. Cover with water. Simmer until apples form a thick sauce. Let cool.

Pie Crust: Combine ingredients to make pie crusts. (Makes approximately 4 (8-inch) crusts.) Roll out 1/4 part of mixture; cut into equal size circles (using small bowl as margin).
Place about 2 tablespoons of filling in center, fold edges together and seal. Fry pies in medium heated skillet. Brown on one side and turn. Brown and drain on paper towel.
