Bottomless Apple Pie

1/3 cup syrup
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
7 medium apples that are peeled, cored and sliced (7 cups)
1/3 cup raisins
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Pastry for 1-crust 9 inch pie

Heat oven to 425 degrees.
Mix syrup, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large bowl. Add apples and raisins. Toss to coat. Place apple mixture in a 9 inch square baking pan. Dot with butter.
Roll pastry on a lightly floured surface to a 9 inch square. Cover fruit with pastry. Cut several slits to permit steam to escape.
Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until filling is bubbling and pastry is lightly browned
