Cherry Cobbler

1/4 CUP butter
1 CUP sugar
2 TSP baking powder
1 16 oz can cherries, reserve juice
1 CUP flour
1/4 TSP salt
1/2 CUP milk

Cream together butter and 1/2 cup sugar. Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Stir into butter and sugar mixture and add milk. Beat until smooth. Pour mixture into a buttered baking dish. Spoon drained fruit over batter and sprinkle with remaining sugar. Pour reserved cherry juice over top. Bake 45 minutes in a 375 degree oven until lightly browned and bubbly.
