Frosty Spice Cake

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1 cup dairy sour cream
1/3 cup chopped walnuts

FROSTY ICING: 1 cup packed light brown sugar
2 egg whites
3 tablespoons cold water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Set aside. In another bowl, sift together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream. Pour into 2 greased 8" cake pans.

Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 25 - 30 minutes. Cool. Frost with Frosty icing. Sprinkle with walnuts. Frosty Icing: In the top of a double boiler, mix sugar, egg whites, and water> Place over boiling water. Beat constantly with electric mixer till stiff peaks form, 4-5 minutes. Remove top pan from heat. Add vanilla. Beat one minute longer. Spread on cake immediately.
