APPLE PIE CAKE

1/2 c. butter or margarine
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
4 Tbsp. hot water
5 c. diced, peeled and cored apples
1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans

Cream butter and sugar; stir in eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, soda, baking powder, salt and spices. Stir half of the flour mixture into egg mixture. Beat in 2 tablespoons hot water, then remaining flour mixture, followed by remaining hot water, beating after each addition. Stir in apples and nuts.

Spread into a 9 x 13-inch greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
