Hand Cookies

1/2 c. margarine
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 t. baking powder

Cream together margarine and shortening, then gradually stir in sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, then add vanilla. Mix well.

Mix together flour, and baking powder. Gradually add flour mixture into margarine mixture, creaming well. Cover and refrigerate for one hour, or overnight. (this is necessary so that the dough will be easier to work with.) Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Sprinkle flour on the area where you will roll out cookie dough. Roll dough to about 1/8 inch thick. Place child's (or your) hand on the dough and cut out the form of it with a dull rounded-tip pastry or table knife. Place on baking sheet and reshape a little, if necessary. Bake for 5-7 minutes. Cool completely, then decorate.
