Apple Cranberry Cookie Cobbler

3-4 granny smith apples
1 can (16 oz.) whole berry cranberry sauce
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 package (20 oz.) refrigerated sugar cookie dough, cut in half
powdered sugar (optional)

Preheat oven to 400F. Peel, core and slice apples. Cut apple slices in half, place in baking dish (we use an 11" round, 1 1/2" deep one) until it is about 1/2 to 3/4 full. In a separate bowl, combine cranberry sauce, sugar, flour and cinnamon. Pour over apples, spreading with spatula to ensure even coverage. Cut cookie dough in half, reserve one portion for another use. Slice cookie dough into 1/4" thick slices. Arrange evenly over apple mixture.

Bake 30-35 minutes or until apples are tender and top is golden brown. Sprinkle top with powdered sugar to serve, if desired.
