Devils Food Pudding


1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons shortening
1 egg
1 1-ounce sqyare ybsweetebed chocolate,melted and cooled
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
ice cream or satin sauce..recipe follows...

Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg; mix well. Beat in chocolate. Stir together flour, soda and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add to creamed mixture Alternately with buttermilk and vanilla; beat well. Divide into two well-greased 16-ounce vegetable cans. Cover tightly with foil. Place in crockery cooker. Pour 1/2 cup warm water around cans. Cover; cook on high-heat setting 1 1/2 hours. Remove cans from cooker; cool 10 minutes; unmold. Serve warm with ice cream or Satin Sauce. Makes 8 servings.

SATIN SAUCE
Combine 2 egg yolks, 1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and a dash of salt; beat till fluffy. Whip 1/2 cup whipping cream; fold in. Chill thoroughly. Stir before serving.
